From Submarines to Servers: Todd Grabowski Discusses Meeting Data Centre Cooling Demands on Bloomberg Radio
Todd Grabowski, President of Data Centre Solutions at Johnson Controls, recently joined Bloomberg Radio’s Money Minute to share insights into the latest advancements in data centre cooling technology.
Key Highlights
- Johnson Controls’ YORK YVAM air-cooled magnetic bearing chiller is designed to meet the evolving needs of data centre operators. It addresses challenges such as wider temperature ranges, reduced energy and water consumption, noise reduction and space limitations. These issues are becoming increasingly important as data centres expand to support artificial intelligence, cloud computing and high-density chip technologies.
- Originally developed for naval applications, the magnetic bearing technology used in the YVAM chiller has been adapted to deliver quiet, efficient and highly reliable cooling for critical data centre environments. This innovation supports uninterrupted operations while helping facilities meet sustainability targets.
- The YVAM chiller operates without using any water on site, making it ideal for locations where water conservation is a priority. It consumes nearly 40 percent less energy annually compared to conventional systems, while maintaining the same cooling capacity and offering the widest operating range available. This flexibility allows data centres to use the same cooling infrastructure across a variety of technologies, including cold air aisles, immersion cooling and direct liquid cooling.
By combining advanced engineering with environmental responsibility, Johnson Controls continues to lead the way in smart, scalable and sustainable data centre solutions.
